The family of buffets has fallen on hard times, a shadow of its former self. The quality and quantity of food has dropped precipitously from its glory days. The selection is limited and the quality is a notch above school cafeteria food.

Since this is a much, much delayed entry, I forgot when I actually visited but let's say it was Oct 16. For all I can recall, this could be the wrong month.  I remember a colleague was in town and this was a quick and convenient stop for lunch.  I like Pot Belly sandwiches and this location built one that I liked also.

I walked in with a preconceived notion this establishment would be the equivalent of the oil change shop. I wasn't holding out for much.

I forgot the name of this particular burger but it was surprisingly good, quantum leaps above fast food burgers. Moist, juicy, tender, flavorful. It was better or at least more preferred than burgers from some of the establishments known for their burgers.

Chinatown Buffet - Janesville, WI

There was absolutely no standout dish. It’s a buffet with typical American Chinese food that rates OK at best for Janesville. It would die a quick death in a large metropolitan city.

Cast Iron Pot BBQ Pork is ¼ lb of slow roasted pork shoulder, tangy chipotle bbq sauce, topped with Bartlet pear coleslaw served on housemade bun. The barbecue sauce had a moderate kick and nicely offset by the cool pear coleslaw.  The pork shoulder falls short of fork tender. The bun is substantial to remain intact to the last bite. Overall it is a solid but uninspired offering.

Speakeasy is a nice restaurant for Janesville and offers eclectic fare but none of my colleagues raved about their entrees. Our waitress provided limited service.
