TGI Fridays - Tampa International Airport TPA

CLOSED 2016

The Tampa Airport is smaller than I envisioned.  As expected, this airport has chain restaurants galore.  No restaurant is outstanding other than the prices. We skipped on Italian Carrabba's as we had dinner at Maggiano's the night before. My conservative colleagues chose TGIF's with its exorbitant airport food prices.I had a burger that is quintessential TGIF. Nothing special that made me go into a burger frenzy. I chose it because it was within the expense budget.

Gallery Eclectic Bistro - Tampa, FL

CLOSED

2223 N West Shore Blvd

A colleague and I stopped in for dinner.  We were surprised by the lack of diners in what appeared to be a restaurant with modern artistic decor. Both of us put in our order and in short order, we received what appeared to be aesthetically presented entrees. Unfortunately the taste was not commensurate with the appearance.  It wasn't that the food was terrible, but the flavor was only on the surface and the food bland on the issue.  It was the typical looks better than taste syndrome food of the times.

Toojay's Gourmet Deli - Tampa, FL

CLOSED Oct 2015, relocated.
2223 N. West Shore Blvd

Toojay's is a Florida chain that has won a number of "Best" awards noted by the plaques hung within the restaurant . Did it deserve the status? I figured an $8 Hot Pastrami sandwich in the belly would be the answer.

Let's start with the good. The rye bread was fresh. The bad: the pastrami. It was chewy, sinewy, cold, and lacked depth of flavor. It was by no means the worst I have had but for a deli touting itself as New York style and awarded best title, I expected significantly better.

One sandwich isn't enough to truly judge a restaurant yet this one sandwich was enough for me to say no thanks.
