It's old school, stuck in the 70's, and it appears they put very little effort in upgrading.

Duluth Grill Embers - Duluth, MN

CLOSED 2009(?). This restaurant is now under new ownership as Duluth Grill, sans Embers. The restaurant has been revamped, gets rave reviews, and has been featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.

118 S 27th Ave W

Embers is a family style chain restaurant and up in Duluth, it was packed with Midwest meat and potatoes staple diners sticking with their food of choice. I asked my colleague from Georgia if they had Embers down south to which he replied no. Me, I'm always looking for something different and the Pastie, which the menu claims is a northern Minnesota favorite, was about as different as it got.

Pastie ($7.99), pronounced pass-tee, consists of ground beef, Italian sausage, rutabaga, and carrots baked in a pie crust. The bowl of chocolate pudding appearing substance is actually gravy and complimented the pastie. The pastie is good solid comfort food and I can see how it would be a favorite of the Midwest palate. It wasn't anything special but it fills an empty stomach on a cold day very well.

Hell's Kitchen - Duluth, MN

CLOSED 09/26/2010.

It served the same creation as the original Minneapolis restaurant but later changed venue and name to Hell Burgers and closed soon afterwards.

310 Lake Ave S

This Hell's Kitchen restaurant has no association with Gordon Ramsey and existed well before Gordon Ramsey became a household name. You might say Ramsey was the copycat.
