Foods and Ingredients

All foods and ingredients are rated on a scale of 1 to 10 stars answering the question, "Would I buy it again?"  One star means you have to pay me to buy it again.  Ten stars means I would unhesitatingly buy it again, it is staple of my diet, and frequently made. I'm using whole numbers only, no 1/2 stars.

Good Hot Sauces:

  1. Tapatio
  2. El Yucateco's Chile Habanero classic red salsa
  3.  Cholula hot sauce
  4.  Grace Scotch Bonnet Sauce (Hot)

Standard decent pickled radish

Dim Sum. It's not Chinatown dim sum quality but for under $7, this is fairly decent.  The skins hold up well but you need to watch the steaming time or it becomes mush.  7 stars.

Wonton $7. The flavor isn't bad but it's lacking.  The wontons should be ping pong ball sized but inside are notably less.  It's lacking protein.  But it is a change of pace from the partner's cooking.  6 stars.

Green Curry Paste.  This definitely has flavor but along with it comes a lot more heat than anticipated.  Adding more coconut milk would dilute the flavors but not so much the heat.  It's good for occasional use but it's too much heat for regular eating.  8 stars.

Wonton Noodle.  Nice flavor and texture.  Better than anticipated.  8 stars.

Radish Cake.  Run of the mill.6

Shrimp Dumpling.  They could use a little more shrimp but these are tasty and have a moderately thin skin. 8

Sesame Balls.  I'm not a real fan.  Maybe they need to be prepared by someone who follows instructions.  4

Scallion Pancake.  Make sure they remain solid frozen.  Do not allow them to thaw and they leave a sticky mess on the wax paper as you peel  I like they leave a solid fatty coat of grease on the pan.  7

Radish Cake.  6

Taro Cake.  Not a fan of the gritty texture. 4

Pork and Shrimp Wonton.  These are larger and meatier than the Chicken and Shrimp wonton.  I think I like these better.  8

Radish Stuffed Pocket.  It's not as flaky as the picture would have you believe.  It's decent enough but missing a bit. 6 stars.
