One Flew South - Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport ATL

Terminal E

Visited December 16, 2016

Every time I've been in Terminal E, it appears to be much more relaxed with fewer people and a quieter atmosphere.  I'd rather be in Terminal E compared with the nonstop traffic of Terminal C.

One Flew South has a reputation of not only being one of the best restaurants in the Atlanta airport but being one of the best airport restaurants period.

Pulled Duck Sandwich comprising duck confit, fig, toasted peanut relish, and a side of homemade coleslaw.

The rustic coleslaw elevated itself among the copycat traditional coleslaw with rough shredded cabbage and muted flavors and toned down bitterness of the cabbage.  Some of the shreds almost appeared on the verge of being pickled.  I felt as if I were eating a healthy version of coleslaw.

If asked to guess the protein, duck would not have been the first to come to mind, but by appearance it appeared to be chopped pork. By taste and texture, it was similar to pork but too tender to be pork. Only by careful attention did I taste the mildest of the duck note.  Despite being unable to identify the protein, this was a great sandwich with every component working well. The sturdy bun held up to the last bite and with a perfect bun to meat ratio. The duck was sweet with a seemingly mild hoisin or Asian flavoring along with the random crunch of peanut was also perfectly balanced in flavor and texture.  Sweet, savory, comforting.

The service was OK on the surface but aloof. I got the feeling my waiter would have rather been somewhere else. I got that feeling with all the serving staff from the hostess to every waiter as I listened to the voices and observed the faces and body language.

I have to agree with One Flew South's reputation foodwise.  It is one of the best airport restaurants.
