Wicker Park Seafood & Sushi - Chicago O'Hare International Airport ORD

Terminal 2, Main Hall

Visited August 3, 2018

I've walked by Wicker Park countless times. I've looked at their menu many times but passed by because of the prices.  I gave in today.  The open air setting gives it an expensive classy air.  Does substance match appearance?

The host/bartender sees me waiting to be seated. I establish eye contact but he continues to jaw with the help.  After about two minutes of me trying to get his attention via eye contact, he nonchalantly walks toward me, smiles, and acknowledges me by asking if I would like a seat, as if he's just seeing me right now. A poor first impression.

Crazy Fish Roll. Soy paper, spicy cooked salmon, Japanese cucumber, cilantro, shallot, spicy mayo. At $14, it's the lowest cost roll on the menu. That more than $2 per slice. Even though there seems to be a method to the plating, it fails to appeal to me.  It looks amateurish.  Gordon Ramsay would flip his lid.

Upon receiving and beyond the fluorescent green soy paper, beyond the blots of sauce, I notice the rice lacks a sheen. Was vinegar used?  The eating says no.  It's ordinary long grain cooked rice. The cooked salmon is tree bark rough.  Flavor? Nope. The spicy sauce all heat and no flavor.

For a garbage disposal as me, I can't say it's bad but this is the most unsatisfactory high priced sushi I've had. Sushi at typical Chinese AYCE taste better than this.  If this Crazy Fish Roll is typical Wicker Park Sushi output, keep walking.  Head to Tortas Frontera where you get great tasting filling meal for much less.

The server never asked how my meal was.  I should have stiffed him.
