Custom Burgers - LaGuardia Airport LGA

CLOSED 2023(?)

Terminal C, Queens

Pat La Frieda is a meat purveyor known in the foodie world and the supplier of meat for the equally known $32 Black Tavern Burger served at Minnetta Tavern. The burger is on my bucket list.
Despite reading horrible reviews about Custom Burger at LGA, I still was determined to give it a try.

Ordering is all done on an iPad.

I order a Single. The American cheese adda a dollar to the cost. The lettuce, onion, tomato, and spicy aioli are no charge.  After ordering, you take the slip the machine spits out and walk it to the cash register about 100 ft away. The cashier gives you a receipt and then you go back and wait and wait and wait....

Finally after 15 minutes, my order is called. I hope it isn't the crud the Yelpers say it is. It isn't!  It is actually great for a $8 burger. The thicker than expected patty is moist, tender, beefy dripping with greasy goodness and reminding me of great old school burgers. The veggies taste fresh and crisp. The bun is ratioed right for this combination of components. The spicy aioli adds a zing that sets it apart from the typical burger.

Maybe I got lucky.  Maybe the assembler cared about preparation. I saw her working appearing diligent but at turtle pace.  Maybe I got lucky as she was just given a fresh batch of 6 cooked patties of which mine is one.  Maybe it's because this is in Terminal C rather than the main stand.
