You’ll repeatedly pass by Bangkok Thai Deli because there is no sign to indicate it exists. When you do locate it by address, you doubt you’re at the right place because you step through the doors into a grocery store. Look to your right and about 40 ft down is a wide opening. That’s where you go and find ample seating to erase your doubts.
Egg rolls are cheap at 50 cents each. The egg rolls stuffing includes silver thread noodles, onion, carrot, celery, water chestnut, and ground pork and chicken. These came out potato chip crispy and tongue burning hot. I was expecting the standard Vietnamese cha gio style but these were milder. I was also expecting a fish sauce based dip but instead a sweet and sour sauce was provided. I assumed these were Thai style. I still favor the Vietnamese style but nonetheless, these were good.
The waiter was extremely helpful and patient with us as we must have had a lost look on our faces. He recommended that we try the Thai style Papaya Salad ($5.00) with Chicken Wings ($1 each) and the Sticky Rice ($1). We ordered the Papaya Salad with one pepper and that provided more than sufficient heat for me. It had a notable pleasant lime taste along with the nice crunch of the papaya. The wings were meaty and fantastic with flavor soaked down to the bone and could have been a complete meal alone. For me, the sticky rice didn’t compliment the salad but it helped soak of some of the heat.
The Green Curry Chicken ($6.00) was my favorite dish. It had a mild heat and most notable was the smoothness of the sauce. Ladled over white rice, it was provided the utmost in mouth feel satisfaction.
The Beef Stir Fried Noodle ($7.00) or Pad Thai was an excellent dish. It didn’t have a wok breath taste but it did have a nice balance of sweet and heat.
Bangkok’s menu claims they have real Thai food. This is one restaurant that I eagerly anticipate returning to try their other offerings.
Lastly, we ordered some foods from their deli to go including Stuffed Chicken Wing and Crispy Pork Belly. Both were out of this world delicious. The Stuffed Chicken Wing consists of silver thread noodle, onion, carrot, water chestnut, ground pork and ground chicken. The wings are simply amazing, food fit for the gods.
