TV Exposure: Burgers Brew & 'Que. It is the 3516 Market Ave location featured, not this airport outpost.
What: Bratwurst and Pierogi
My flight is diverted due to a perfect storm of a low fuel, high winds, and an unexpected perfect storm. The jet lands in Cleveland to refuel and sits in limbo until we get a communication to hurry up because a slot has opened at Pearson.
No matter, I welcome the diversion as my obligation is flexible and I get another restaurant opportunity.
Dortmunder Gold Lager Bratwurst, three cheese and potato pierogis, braised cabbage, sour cream, and dijon mustard ($15.40). This appears to be the signature dish of a conservative menu. National exposure to me means it better be good. Granted this is the outpost and may fall short of equaling the original but it should be close. Right?
No. The bratwurst offers traditional conservative bratwurst flavor. It's dryer and a bit leaner than Johnsonville. I prefer Johnsonville over this. The mustard elevates the taste of the brats. Average brats.
Pierogis. This is not want I expect when I hear the word pierorgi. I'm expecting half moon shaped dumpling with hotspots of golden brown from being skillet fried. These appear to be lightly deep fried. It's more overcooked hard bland dough than cheese. The sour cream does little to enhance enjoyment. Below average pierogis.
Food: ★★1/2
Service: ★★1/2
Probability of making an out of the way return: N/A
Probability of returning if in the area: 5%
Bottom Line: Hype
