YINJI/Ngan Gei with a number of outposts is recognized as one of the best of its kind in Guangzhou and arguably candidate for the most well known. After a meal here, I can corroborate its reputation is well deserved.
This is the best Cheung Fun I have had, and if not the best, it easily fall is in the Top 5. Silky, springy, delightfully velvety smooth thin skin with quality fresh tastily seasoned fillings cooked to perfection.
Shrimp and Pork Cheung Fun. Light, flavorful, and delicate. Both cheung funs are top notch but this particular one is easily my favorite, balancing lightness and fulfillment, sweetness and savory, smoothness and snap. Heavenly and crave worthy. I could eat this for breakfast daily and grow dumb, happy, and mostly fat.
Five Spice Beef Brisket Cheung Fun. Packed with flavor but with progress bites, the anise overtakes the delicate skin. Bold defiant in your face flavor.
The Congee is also one of the best I've had, certainly in the Top 5, with everything but the kitchen sink thrown in generous handfuls. Uplifting, light, savory, sweet with fresh. I could also chow on this every morning and grow dumber, happier, and even fatter.
This place makes a strong argument for being my second favorite eatery I ate at during this tour.
The restaurants sees furniture as a necessary evil. The decor is bare minimum spartan with stainless table, stools, fans, AC, and bare walls. I sat next to the AC yet still worked up a sweat downing the steaming hot congee. The locals seemed immune to the heat and humidity.
UPDATE: The restaurant expanded into the Toronto GTA Canada. How does the transplant do? Click here to read the review.
Food: ★★★3/4
Service: ★★
