Despite all the gallons of consumption, the uncontrollable urge to slurp pho at different establishments remains a curse like the salmon run. Fortunately grizzlies are unable to plot where to await my arrival. My run up the river was to Pho An Sandy in a stretch of Sandy Blvd unofficially Little Saigon. Pho An Sandy is housed in top heavy chimneyed building appearing to be an architectural experiment short of funds.
Pho Dac Biet is as their menu states a "special combination of noodles, slices of round steak, flank, fatty brisket, tendon, tripe, and beef meatballs." Almost always this is the pho I'll order. What I want is an overdose of tendon. It's almost impossible stock pho with too much squishy melt in your mouth goodness tendon.
Pho An Sandy's pho is old school traditional pho just like the old school owners, cooks, and servers. The folks that run this place seem to mostly adhere to the old country ways. Good for them.
As I said, its basic traditional old school pho. Al dente rice noodles, and basic broth. For my taste buds, it's missing the umami I've come to expect from the progressive western influenced Vietnamese noodle shops so it falls short of rating phoking good. It scratched but didn't quell the itch.
