CLOSED 03/21/2015. Bamboo Izakaya closed doors for a few day to reopen as the third Bamboo Sushi. Their experiment as an izakaya allegedly failed because Portland customers demanded sushi rather than the binchotan grilled foods. Bamboo Izakaya must be a woman's happy hour spot because for an uncomfortable time, I was the only one present that wasn't. This was Portland become Japan where women visit izakayas because they have disposable incomes whereas the men go straight home saving up to have a family.
Kushiyaki - Chicken Thigh and Grass Fed Beef Skirt Steak. The pleasing appearances outmatched the bland flavors. Grilled flavor? Check. Sodium? Seasoned to suit high blood pressure customers. Portion size? Meets Jenny Craig's guidelines.
Pork Belly. Like biting into cubes of the most insipid pork belly I've ever had.
Uni Creme Brulee. I wanted pure gonads but this was the only option here. How much uni was in it? I would guessed none. Is it supposed to be warm? This was the first expensive brulee I had that I didn't like.
The food was too much for too little in volume and taste. Bamboo Izakaya equals disappointment.
