Jesse's on Fire - Auburndale, FL

CLOSED Aug(?) 2017

117 E Lake Ave

In pro wrestling or as Vince McMahon deemed in his revisionist world, sports entertainment, being white bread is a death knell. A wrestler wants strong audience reaction, either cheer or jeers. No reaction means kiss future TV appearances goodbye. Such is the case with Jesse's on Fire for me. No reaction. Jesse's reminded me of Applebee's, which isn't good or bad, only that it was similar and failed to elicit emotion.

The Fire Burger. I requested medium and it arrived medium well. The estimated 6 oz patty leaned on the airy side. Nearly drip dry, it was nonetheless acceptably moist and smooth. The first bite had good grilled flavor but faded with subsequent bites. The white American cheese was well melted yet the burger arrived tepid. It shouldn't take 15-20 minutes for a burger when I'm the sole diner. The burger was sorry to interrupt the waitress and staff gossiping smack. The shredded lettuce was weak. A single torn leaf would have provided better texture and contrast. The remaining toppings comprised pickles, tomatoes, and Dijon. The toasted bun with a light flour dusted top remained intact just barely to the last bite. Rating: 7.5 out of 10.

The hand cut fries were top notch in contrast to the Bass-O-Matic coleslaw that sat out too long.
