Big Smoke Burger has the look and feel of a chain but I wasn't sure until I researched after eating here. I found the poutine offering unusual but that was all explained when the website states Big Smoke is a Canadian based chain. And so far, Denver has the only US based location. That explains the unfamiliarity.
One of the most requested last meals of death row prisoners is a cheeseburger. That is the thought that popped into my head after I took the first few bites of the Big Smoke Burger.
The other thought that came to mind is this burger is so much better than Cherry Cricket.
The Big Smoke Burger is a signature burger with horseradish mayo, caramelized onions, smoked cheddar, lettuce, and tomato. The bun feels less than sturdy for the big well done patty holds together to the last bite. The first couple of bites explode with smokey goodness and greasy juicy goodness that eventually faded into the palate background. The sweetness of the caramelized onions is stronger than the pungency of the horseradish mayo but I would prefer it vice versa. The oozy cheese acts as the glue that makes all the ingredients come together in delightful harmony.
The fries are the equal of the burger and one of the best fast food fries I've had. I trust the same fries are used in the poutine so I'm stoked to try the poutine.
