Mezza Mediterranean Grille - Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport DTW

CLOSED September 15(?), 2025. Rebranded(?) as Piata Mediterranean Kitchen and Tavern

Terminal A, Gate 54

Visited September 24, 2015

I remembered a restaurant named "Mediterranean Grill" with a different front. Was this Mediterranean Grill remodeled and renamed or was this an altogether new restaurant? I ran through the menu board at the entrance and remember seeing the same font but not seeing lamb offered. And then I saw the Lamb Burger entry, the hook.

Lamb Burger with Greek Fries. $13.99. Airport extortion price. I ordered it medium well and it arrived closer to medium than medium well which was perfect for me. I had concerns about ordering something pink at the airport with turnover. The pleasant surprise is that the cook did do a good job cooking it. Despite the grill marks, it didn't have a heavy char grilled flavor. The lamb was strong enough with the gamey, musty, stale note to let the senses know it was lamb. The tzatziki sauce provided a cooling smoothness to the package. The onions, lettuce, and tomatoes provided crunch and moistness. The overall package was decent if bland, lacking the special flavors and failed to smack the misanthropes palate awake.

I couldn't taste anything that distinct that earned the fries the name of Greek fries. The fries were well made.
