Ethiopian restaurants are comparatively uncommon in the US so it strikes me odd that a 5 block stretch of E Colfax has something like 10 Ethiopian restaurants. Why I chose Axum among all of them now escapes me.
Axum Special Tibs comprises lamb, onions, jalapeno peppers which arrives in a sizzling cast iron plate and then spooned off onto the injera on a plate. The pepper didn't have any kick it and the protein tasted more like beef than lamb. The entree was OK and nothing setting it apart to scream Ethiopian food. It is like a Chinese or Mexican stir fry minus a distinctive flavor. Alas, it fell short of it's moniker Special.
