The Pig and the Pint - College Park, GA

CLOSED May 18, 2018.  Closure

1583 Virginia Ave

The Hartsfield International Airport rim is ringed with countless restaurants leaning toward national chains from fast food to sit down casual. A few independents dare to compete here. Such is the case of The Pig and the Pint offering cuisine as that could be categorized as Southern and New American.

Braised Lamb Shank with Roasted Broccoli and Smashed Yukons. My palate isn't food snob sensitive so often I miss the taste of or misidentify ingredients in food. With that said, I believe the lamb shank was braised in wine because it had that minerally bitterness that makes salted food taste exponentially saltier. Those were the primary tastes of the lamb. Food snobs would say I should have a sophisticated palate that likes wine cooked food but my childlike tongue prefers food untouched by alcohol.

The food tasted prepared without tasting or testing. Bland broccoli, bland Yukons. The lamb shank wasn't fall apart tender but parts of it had been exposed to air too long resulting in dried stringy strands. I give The Pig an "A" for daring to be different in proximity to an airport but give it a "C" for execution. My server rated a "C".  For the price and the concept, the food should have exploded with care and flavor.

The front porch provides an unobstructed view of the cemetery. It's peaceful. Even the jets taking off nearby seem muted in the park.
