We asked four different locals where Thai Town was and they said they never heard of it, even though we were only a block away from it. We finally saw a small inconspicuous sign Thai Town and wandered the streets looking for an eatery. We asked another local if she could recommend a good restaurant and she said yes, the one she works at if you’re looking for westernized Thai food. For more authentic Thai food, go to Pa-Ord a few doors down, which we did.

This place wasn’t packed like it the restaurant a few doors down but there were plenty of Southeast Asian customers who appeared to be regulars.

Pad See Ew with Pork, Thai Dumpling, and Shrimp Paste Fried Rice.

The dumplings were reminiscent of Chinese sui mai. Decent but not outstanding.

The Pad See Ew was excellent with a mild wok hay flavor, tender noodles, and the smoky, crunchy, charred pork belly bits. It was just a tad greasy.

The Shrimp Paste fried rice was my favorite dish. Attractive in plating with the separate ingredients but mixing all the components made for a comfortable meal with the different tastes and contrasting textures. Meaty, crunchy, salty, shrimpy, spicy. I don’t know exactly what they did here but I wish I could replicate it.

Our waitress was a little shy and reserved but very good and did her job well.

A winner. The cost was very reasonable given the quality. I wish this place was in my neighborhood.
