Adobo Grill - Los Angeles, CA

4716 Fountain Ave

CLOSED March(?) 2017

Adobo serves cafeteria style. Seeing foods we were unfamiliar with, we asked what each of the offerings were. The owner which I assume is Pop of this Mom and Pop operation offered small samples to help us through the process.

Peanut Chicken or something like that. The meal came with one main item, rice, and soup.

The server which I’ll assume was a member of the family was stingy. She haplessly heaped on the cheap rice but carefully portioned the protein. The protein should have  been scooped in the main section of the tri-sectioned container and the rice in the corner section. Notice how the main item consists of predominately veggies. Where’s the protein? The Peanut Chicken was decent, peanutty, different in taste from the more standard Asian fare but there wasn’t much…

After paying, I realized I wan’t  given my cup of soup so I went back. She put the ladle into the soup tray and pushed away the vegetables so that she ladled only the broth. The soup reminded me of tart clear tomato soup sans tomato.

We also ordered a meal with offal which was better tasting and with a good mouthfeel.

How was the first experience with Filipino cuisine? The food was intriguing enough for us to dive further into Filipino cuisine but with the stingy server, Adobo Grill is a big never return.
