I stumbled upon this establishment, which has three different signs with three different names creating an episode of confusion. Regardless of the name, the local Hispanics know it's here. I am the only non-Hispanic present. This is a testament to goodness of the food at Santa Cruz.
Asada, Pescado, and Pastor tacos. It took a few minutes but the diminutive cook came out smiling and placed this attractively executed ensemble before me. The first bite would be telling. In a rare moment, taste exceeded appearance. The soft tortilla was absent the stale corn taste that I believed inherent to corn tortillas.
The Asada and the Pastor tacos defined excellence but the piece de resistance was the Pescado. I've had fish taco but nothing that excited me. This however was tongue scorching hot, flavorful, crunchy, flaky and explained the phenomenon of the fish taco.
Santa Cruz is a stupendous value and a must-eat eatery to put on the weekly lunch circuit.
