Pho Dalat held true to the quintessential Utilitarian Restaurant Decor 101 pho shop model. Even a turd floating in the toilet greeted me.
The Special with top round, flank, tendon, and beef tendon. I ordered the large size bowl generous with the broth but stingy on the noodles. The scalding hot broth hit the spot with great umami and just the right hint of anise. The noodles were perfectly cooked with just a bit of snap. The cook provided an abundance of beef balls but held back on the other meats, especially the beef tendon. The meat registered relatively high quality and tender. The beef tendons were perfectly squishy soft with a great mouth feel. The accompanying bean sprouts and basil were nicely fresh. Overall good pho but fell short of great.
Pho Dalat would have a good chance of survival in a Little Saigon enclave.
