JW Kaladi's - Hudson, WI

CLOSED December 2014. JW Kaladi's became Kaladi 2.0 but in both carnations, it is now permanently closed.

3250 Heiser Street

A Chicago style hot dog must have
mustard, neon relish, onions, sliced tomatoes, pickle spear, sports pepper, celery salt, and a poppy seed bun ($2.79 plus another $1.50 for soda and fries). I like snap in hot dogs and the Vienna beef dog lacked it. The celery salt made the dog saltier than it needed to be. Celery seed alone would have been good enough. Kaladi's makes a nice but not top of the line Chicago dog.

I didn't go into Kaladi's with a Reuben ($6.95) in mind so call me stunned to find a Reuben among the best if not the best I've had. The Reuben comprised 1/8 in. thick slices corned beef brisket, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing on marble rye. The rye's mild flavor let the corned beef shine. The bread had the right combination of crunchy exterior with a soft middle. The sauerkraut and thousand island dressing worked to compliment the corned beef. The corned beef was magnificent, perfect texture and cut. This was a rarity, finding a Reuben done right!
