Kona Grill - Vaughan, ON

CLOSED August(?) 2019.  Bankruptcy appears to be the cause.

If you need a respite from Indian food saturation in this region of the GTA, Kona Grill will do.  A few hundred feet from the Holiday Inn, it presumably takes in weary and less adventurous travelers.  More so, it looks like Caucasians with money to burn or who want to be seen in a more hip restaurant.

Kona Grill is a chain restaurant. I think Hawaiian but other than the Poke, not much else would I consider to be Hawaiian.

Shrimp Poke comprises sushi rice, shrimp, red onion, spicy motoyaki sauce, avocado, cucumber, seaweed salad, crab mix, sweet sesame sauce.  I forego ordering the more traditional poke with raw tuna.  Tonight I just want to eat something a little different if safe as this dish.  It's a good choice.  I like this dish.  Everything looks and does taste fresh.  It should be at the sticker price of $18.  Yes, everything gels together with a hint of heat. The taste and texture are on but for my personal taste, the sauce is just a bit sweet.  Turn down the sweetness a notch or two and it's an ostensibly healthy dish I could eat daily.

Come here if you have money to burn.  The dishes are overpriced to support the staff and the decor.  I have ambivalent feelings about Kona.  It could be so much more but I feel the desire to make money wins over their potential to be that much more to the customers.
