Old Salt feels like old comfortable shoes. It feels like a welcoming restaurant should with its bucolic aged wood decor and halcyon atmosphere.

The menu board listed a variety of sandwich. All sounded tempting yet none stood out so I asked what the signature sandwich was. They apparently don't have one but are proud of all their sandwich creations.

The Reuben comprises house corned beef and pastrami with kraut, thousand island, and Swiss on Fressen rye. The kraut wasn't the traditional kraut I grew up with but a less pickled form resulting in a fresher, more pliant, smoother texture. The corned beef and pastrami lacked the well marbled/tiled/cubed fall apart meat expected and fell deli thin, chewy, slightly stringy, almost like soggy bacon with undesirable pockets of fat.

It's not Kenny & Zuke's. The sandwich fell well short of my ideal Reuben sandwich, outside the Top 25% of Reuben's I've had. My search for the perfect Reuben continues.
