Alliteration may be the reason behind the name Grain & Gristle because any restaurant named forebodes bad food. Quite the opposite however, G&G reinforces the widely held belief Portland is a sandwich city.
Smoked Lambwich comprises pickled fennel & pickles, harissa, aioli. Parsley, celery. Tender, definitely lamb with moderate gaminess, sweet heat from the harissa, and a smooth touch of garlic. The roll provides a crunchy exterior with soft inside. The lambwich is a winner for G&G and Portland.
My complaint lays in the small portion for the money but I suppose it's good that way to curb gluttony.
