Maple Yip has a reputation of being one of the better more upscale Chinese restaurants in the GTA. That is reason enough to stop in.

Return visit 3/20/16, 4:56 PM.  Maple Yip continues to operate in a world of mutable restaurants. It's a testament to its output both in terms of food and service.  Has it changed for better, worse, or the same?  We are about to find out.

Most of the dishes ordered are a little less mainstream. The free range chicken is a hit if a restaurant nails down the smoothness of the meat, the snap of the skin, and the critical green onion ginger sauce. The combination isn't up to world class level but above average.  It lacks the magic quality.

The hot pot is sizzling hot but the flavors haven't saturated to the core of the proteins.

Pork Belly.  This is a favorite dish.  Sweet, savory, and almost unctuous.  It isn't meltingly tender as I anticipate or as capable in execution as I know they can prepare it.

The service continues to be above average for a Chinese restaurant.  The wait staff is actually welcoming and somewhat friendly.
