Sree’s Foods – Pittsburgh, PA

CLOSED (2020?) this 701 Smithfield St location and RELOCATED to 808 Penn St.

The outside architecture is inviting but the inside has a worn out diviness. The place was packed with eating customers and a queue about 10 deep. Those were good signs. The locals know where to go for good and/or cheap food. At 5 bucks it was cheap. The question remained if it is good.

Tables set up like counters line the perimeter of the eatery. It’s definitely fast food ideally set up for the solo.

Chicken Curry, biriyani, white rice, and pita. She said it was tamarind but it tasted more like curry to me. The flavoring on the chicken was limited to mostly the surface. The biriyani was the best part of the meal, fluffy with a mildly pleasant spicy kick. The pita was dry on the verge of stale.

The food wasn’t so much an enjoyable as much as it was sustenance. It was good enough and it was cheap enough at $5. I would return if I wanted to eat something different than the usual burgers and subs.
