Ephesus Mediterranean Restaurant - Pittsburgh, PA

CLOSED.  Relocated to 219 4th Ave?

322 4th Avenue

I'm glad I had the address because I walked by many times and never saw the sign in the dark. The building was desolate as the street. I took the elevator up into a shabby space reminiscent of 1970's rundown rec room.  It looked dusty and old, and I wondered when the health inspector last visited.

Lamb Shish Kabob. Mixed Grill with lamb, chicken, koefte (seasoned beef patties), and adana (hot and spicy round beef).

The TV played Turkish talk show on mute as I waited and waited and waited...The styrofoam boxed entrees came 30 minutes later followed by a box of iceberg lettuce salad. The salad box held two containers of salad dressing. One looked like Italian dressing but was either their Turkish or Home Made. It was too die for. Vibrant, garlicky, salty, oily, OMG addictive. I used the dressing as a dip for the skewers, making the ordinary dry meat come alive. I used the dressing as a dip for the excellent naan like bread.

The food was better than anticipated given appearances and service. The food output was incongruous with the environment in a good way. Service was a mixed lot with apathy leading the way.
