Downtown Deli - Phoenix, AZ

CLOSED July 2, 2015

130 North Central Avenue

Downtown Deli is well prepared for the noon cattle drive, the cattle quickly funneled through the winding railings. The cashiers and food assemblers are seasoned, efficient, and immune to the distress of this daily ritual. The locals, namely the area business people create a bustling energetic atmosphere.

New Yorker ($8.49) - Pastrami or Corned Beef topped with creamy Cole Slaw and Russian Dressing. I didn't specify nor was I asked which I wanted so the cashier defaulted to corned beef. My bad. Regardless, this was one of the most appealing corn beef sandwiches I have had to date. The corned beef was perfectly marbled and melted in the mouth, but alas shaved razor thin. The coleslaw while adding extra moistness to the sandwich detracted from the smokiness of the corned beef. More corn beef and less coleslaw please. The fries were crispy and perfectly seasoned. I could eat like this daily.
