Pho Saigon by name would seem to be an exclusively Vietnamese restaurant yet the menu shows a predominance of Chinese food with a buffet set up. Tempting and cheaper as the buffet was, I had to partake in pho.
The Pho Special arrives with a broth is dialed to 11 hot and wonderfully and comfortably tasteful the way broth should taste – subtle yet full with hints of this and that and nothing overpowering. It is a little greasy with dime sized fat islands coalescing to form larger islands, which added a textural distraction. The noodles are heated through and steeped to the proper level of bite. The thin sliced meats are better than the usual TC offering. A huge tendon is fished out of the broth and gone all too soon. Where are the others? An unusual twist is that pickled jalapenos accompanied rather than fresh.
Pho Saigon’s pho is a welcome addition to the TC pho scene but the price has to come down. Is it almost $8 a bowl? The lunch buffet is $7.
