Pelmenit is off the beaten path in a seedy sector and passing by two strip clubs made me think I had it all wrong. I'm glad I continued on because this ended being my favorite restaurant of the excursion.
This Russian restaurant has only a chalkboard with the changing menu written in Finnish(?). The female host/cook/waitress/cashier/daughter of the owner(s) was the most gracious and accommodating host I have ever had the pleasure of dealing with. She patiently explained the menu items many times in her limited English when she had every right to look down her nose at this American. Americans certainly wouldn't have been as tolerant of foreigners as she was.
I forget the Finn word but these were the blintzes or crepes. Beef, fish, and vegetable. The condiment portion of mildly spicy stuff and sour cream were huge.
Pelmeni, the national dish of Russia, with lignon berries. Dill seems to be popular with Russians also. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful. If this is typical of Russian food, I love it.
This is a memorable place.
