World Buffet - Apple Valley, MN

CLOSED 2012?  This place had a grand opening on 10/17/12 with the name Super World Buffet. Is it a renaming and not a true closure?

Southport Centre, 15050 Cedar Ave

We walked in believing it would be small. Wrong. It was one of the larger Chinese buffets in the TC with a large seating area. We thought it would offer a few selections. Wrong. It has one of the larger offerings in the metro with an estimated 35 different hot entree items. We thought it would be empty. Wrong. It was doing healthy lunch business.

Above all, we thought it would offer the same old typical Chinese buffet offerings. Right and wrong. For the most part it was the same but a few different treats popped out. There were the typical standards and semi-standards. We didn’t care for the Mongolian grill. The sushi was limited to four varieties and all were decent with the salmon roll better than average for a buffet.

The unexpected find was the seafood mix with squid tentacles. Not world class but it meant going back for seconds and thirds. The semi-standard salt and pepper chicken was grilled and tasted like top quality fajita meat. We thought it was the best entree offering. Speaking of fajitas, they also had a tray of beef tacos with flour shells.

World Buffet doesn’t break any molds but it does deserve a note for being one of the better Chinese buffets in the metro.
