Cha Cha Coconuts is a tourist stop serving sports bar food with a safe Caribbean flair catering to the taste of the masses.
While Cha Cha does not offer a sampler platter, the closest was the Cha Cha Combo ($14.95) comprising Blue Mountain Voodoo Ribs and Cayman Chicken. The ribs are slow roasted with guava barbecue sauce. The Cayman Chicken is prepared with guava barbecue, cheese, bacon, and diced tomato. Accompanying the Combo are fries with a choice of salad or gumbo.
The ribs spent little time marinating and finished with a mop of the BBQ sauce. Little flavor had seeped in. The chicken lacked internal flavor relying more on the grilling and the plopped on top. The gumbo didn't deserve to be called gumbo tasting like cooked rice dropped in tomato soup with a sprinkling of Cajun spices.
The food is by no means terrible but has much room for improvement. Cha Cha has an enviable scenic view and they bank on captive unwitting visitors/tourists. Prices are reasonable given the prime location and yet won’t scare off the frugal vacationer. With this tactic in hand, there is little incentive to improve, and Cha Cha can continue to offer mediocre food.
