I wasn't expecting much walking into this former Pizza Hut. Then I see the butcher block that's worn deep as a pothole and I'm thinking this might be OK.
The menu board is extensive and I'm trying to work for an unlisted combo Burnt End and Beef Brisket Platter. They have run out of Burnt Ends and it's an easy decision to go with the Brisket Platter.
I see ABC Hungry Hound Steve Dolinsky issued a certificate to Big Ed's. Very good!
Upon first bit of the brisket, I thought it better than Smoque. Smoque gets the attention but my taste buds say Big Ed's should get more. It's not perfect but it is top notch. It's dried out a little but still tender. It needs a little more salt and pepper so it can stand alone. It does need BBQ sauce and I stuck with the Original and the Kansas from the six pack.
The Mac & Cheese is top notch. The Beans are an equal match with a deep rich flavor with bits of pork. Everything is good for a return visit!
12/17/19. Rib Tips. This is a generous and super delicious flavorful portion. It's even tastier than the brisket. I didn't think I would like them but I love them. Maybe a little less dried bark would be nice but I'm it's not a big deal. This return visit affirms my belief Big Ed's is better than Smoque's.
