Mi Habana Cafe - Corona, CA

CLOSED mid(?) 2015

712 N Main St

Despite it's size, it wasn't that easy to find, hidden in a corner among the assorted strip malls in the area. Maybe it was early in the evening and business would pick up later but I was the sole diner. I got the full attention of the hostess/assumed owner.

I asked what their specialty was and the hostess said they serve the best oxtail in the area.  That's what I ordered. Rabo Encendido comprises seasoned ox tails simmered in a peppery red Creole sauce. Let's start with the moros - rice and beans. That was different and delicious, much better than the typical Mexican rice and I would take the moros over it any day.

Without a doubt, it's the best meal I've had in the Inland Empire to date. Nothing else has come close. The ox tails were tender, moist, with the mild peppery taste. It was almost at the OMG level. It reminded me of the best home cooking.  My only complaint was that there wasn't enough.

The Materva was like a cream soda with a hint of malt.

If the Rabo Encendido is typical of what Mi Habana serves, this would be a regular stop.
