The restaurants in the Cultural District lean mainstream for the blue collars so when I saw Istanbul, I noted it as a Must Eat for tomorrow. Tomorrow is today.
Meat Plate $9. I don't know the name of any item but all the halal food was excellent! The chicken carved from the spit was OMG, especially the charred bits. Words fail to describe its awesomeness. The lettuce salad was simple and so delicious with Mediterranean dressing. The stuff on the right side was a hot sauce with perfect heat. The rice was simple yet equally addictive. Was I served bulgur and didn't know it?
Of all the places I ate in Pittsburgh, this place reigned supreme. I give it the highest recommendation. I would have dined here a few more times but I had to try other restaurants and every time I ate, I thought about Istanbul and said Istanbul is better.
The owner couldn't be any nicer, more generous, or trusting. My colleague with credit card only was told "Don't worry, come back when you have the cash". I wish I could bring the owner and his restaurant into my neighborhood.
Long lines form at lunch time and understandably so. The line had shortened to a trickle by the time of this photo.
