Xin Jiang Restaurant – Markham, ON

3636 Steeles Ave E

Established 2007

Not being familiar with Xinjiang cuisine, I can only assume that this restaurant serves the titular Xin Jiang food.

Fennel Lamb Dumpling. On a first eating. it tasted like much fennel but it tasted much better the next day when the flavors mellowed.
BBQ Lamb Kababs. This is what every table around us seemed to order at a minimum. The kababs may be the food that most represents Xinjiang region food. The kebabs ran heavy with a cumin which resulted in a gritty bite. That's OK but then the cook was excessively heavy handed with the salt shaker.

We ordered a few more dishes and I can't say that I was enamored with the meal as a whole.  The previous evening before at North East Chinese Restaurant in Toronto meant we had high expectations coming here.
