India Palace in Woodbury, like its sister restaurant in Roseville, serves a lunch buffet. Today, Valentine’s Day, the lunch buffet was priced at $12.95, posted on the vestibule door a jacked up price for lovebird day knowing Mr. had to take out the Mrs. to smooth the way for extracurricular activities.
Like its sister restaurant in Roseville, this restaurant has the look and feel of an middling upscale restaurant. Unlike its sister restaurant, the buffet selection seemed smaller. One thing for certain is that the two have different offerings.
I’m unable to recall most of the food names but they offered tandoori murg (chicken), bhatura (or is it puree?) – deep fried fluffy bread, naan, rice, deep fried mushroom and spinach balls, chicken curry, chick peas, chunks of cheese in a spinach puree sauce, shrimp vindaloo(?) – shrimp in a tomato based sauce, galub juman – deep fried milk balls, mango pudding, and kulfi – ice milk ice cream with pistachio.
The standouts for me were the deep fried bread and the deep fried mushrooms. The kulfi was wonderfully different reminding of the inside of a Three Musketeers bar but denser and sweeter. It was very rich and a little went a long way.
I had to get my share of tandoori murg (chicken) and the shrimp to get the value from the dollar. The tandoori was dry. The shrimp was overcooked or more likely sat in the heated sauce too long. The curry could have been significantly upped to match the wonderful smell filling the mall parking lot.
The food was good. It’s not world class grade but the food quality is better than the typical Chinese buffet but that's to be expected with the higher price.
